Review: Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

From Goodreads:
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure-bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.
Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:

Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

My Review:
Half-Blood is a riveting mythological read full of action, romance, and smokin' hot guys! I had such a fantastic time reading about Alex and her adventures in the world of halves and pures. This isn't your average mythology novel; no, it is much more than that. Armentrout officially has me hooked on this series, and I may go crazy waiting for the next installment in this series.

Alex is once again kicking butt and taking names in Half-Blood. Sure, she is stuck training in order to be able to become a Sentinel, but that doesn't defeat the fact that she killed two daimons with little experience under her belt. And then there is her instructor, Aiden. Oh, Aiden. He is the strong, silent type who is so easy to fall for. He is brutal in his training sessions with Alex, but only because he knows she has potential. I love the moments where he opens up, and we get to see more of his softer side.

The side cast of characters are just as entertaining! Alex's best friend Caleb is a hoot and such a great friend to Alex. He is always by her side when she needs someone. Marcus is Alex's uncle who seems like a total jackhole at first, but he has a few moments where it is shown that he may not be what he seems. And then there is Seth, who knows he is amazing, and isn't afraid to show it. He is such a jerk but I totally fell in love with him. He has this mysterious, bad boy quality about him that makes him irresistable.

Even though I did read the prequel Daimon and had an idea of the mythology, Half-Blood expands upon it much more, and readers get a much better glimpse into the world of gods. The daimons are just as frightening, but there is much more at stake with them in Half-Blood. There is also insight into different aspects of Alex's world, and it is shown that there is definitely something special about Alex.

Upon finishing Half-Blood, I was devastated. I didn't want the story to end! It is so captivating and intriguing. I will be waiting with bated breath for the sequel to Half-Blood, Pure!
