Simon Pulse
Synopsis:
It’s winter break in Ascension, Maine. The snow is falling and everything looks pristine and peaceful. But not all is as it seems...
Between cozy traditions and parties with her friends, Emily loves the holidays. And this year’s even better--the guy she’s been into for months is finally noticing her. But Em knows if she starts things with him, there’s no turning back. Because his girlfriend is Em’s best friend.
On the other side of town, Chase is having problems of his own. The stress of his home life is starting to take its toll, and his social life is unraveling. But that’s nothing compared to what’s really haunting him. Chase has done something cruel...something the perfect guy he pretends to be would never do. And it’s only a matter of time before he’s exposed.
In Ascension, mistakes can be deadly. And three girls—three beautiful, mysterious girls—are here to choose who will pay.
Em and Chase have been chosen.
My Review:
Fury is a somewhat confusing yet engaging read that I devoured within hours! It is dark and depressing but it will make you think about the decisions you make in your life. Chase and Em have both done some things that are awful and the Furies are out to make their lives miserable.
I had absolutely zero sympathy for Em. She is someone who is easily manipulated by guys and lets her best friend walk all over her. I couldn't see why she would fall for Zach!! He was such a tool and I couldn't believe how dense she was around them. However, even though she made a few terrible mistakes, I don't believe she deserved what the Furies brought upon her. Although it finally opened her eyes, the Furies are terrifying and I wouldn't wish them on anyone!
Chase is equally as conflicted as Em but I liked him much more. I felt for what he had to go through growing up poor with a low-life dad. At least he has an amazing mom who makes so many sacrifices for him. Honestly, I wasn't sure at first why the Furies went after him but when it was all revealed I was shocked.
Fury is a wonderfully crafted novel full of twists and turns that are sure to surprise readers! While Em is slightly annoying, the storyline more than makes up for it. Definitely pick this one up when it releases!!
My Rating:
Thanks for your review of this book. I was kicking myself for not having read this after having had the opportunity; but now I know that I shouldn't have worried. This is one for the LATER pile.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,

Glad to hear you loved this one, Bailey. Its a good thing Fury was written in third person, or I would have wanted to squeeze the life out of Em with my bare hands, lol. Great review!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you! I liked Fury, but it was a little confusing. And I had no sympathy for Em either! :P Glad you enjoyed it though - brilliant review! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm really curious about this one, I've heard Em and Chase are hard to deal with, but the furies themselves sound really fascinating and I like that it's a darker read. I'm a sucker for the darker stories, not sure what that says about me:)
ReplyDeleteI loved it, but was torn at the same time. I'm usually all about characters, but this book is more about the plot and the furies. I'm excited to see what happens in the next one.
ReplyDeleteReview twins! (I posted my review today, too, haha) I agree with what you're saying--the storyline was a little confusing, and Em was pretty unlikable. Fury was more of a "meh" book for me; glad you liked it! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how much more of dark and depressing I can take right now, but I'm always up for a well crafted story.
ReplyDeleteI was also angry at the characters for the horrible things they did, but they definitely didn't deserve death by the Furies! Those Furies meant serious business. Scary.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I'll ever read this one. I've read a lot of good reviews but I still don't feel a strong urge to read it. You never know, I might someday. Glad you ended up enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteI have this one, but don't know when I'll get it ... lol! Glad you enjoyed it!!!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I didn't like Em but felt that she didn't deserve the wrath of the Furies. I actually liked Chase less than Em though even before I found out what he'd done. I knew he played a part in what happened to the girl (can't remember her name) based on his reaction but was really surprised by how big of a role it was.
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I love the concept of this book and still interested in reading this book despite Em being slightly annoying :)
