From Goodreads:
According to her guidance counselor, fifteen-year-old Payton Gritas needs a focus object-an item to concentrate her emotions on. It's supposed to be something inanimate, but Payton decides to use the thing she stares at during class: Sean Griswold's head. They've been linked since third grade (Griswold-Gritas-it's an alphabetical order thing), but she's never really known him.
The focus object is intended to help Payton deal with her father's newly diagnosed multiple sclerosis. And it's working. With the help of her boy-crazy best friend Jac, Payton starts stalking-er, focusing on-Sean Griswold . . . all of him! He's cute, he shares her Seinfeld obsession (nobody else gets it!) and he may have a secret or two of his own.
In this sweet story of first love, Lindsey Leavitt seamlessly balances heartfelt family moments, spot-on sarcastic humor, and a budding young romance.
My Review:
Sean Griswold's Head is a fun and light-hearted read that I thoroughly enjoyed. It deals with Payton's friendship, her budding romance with Sean, and the way she deals with her fathers case of MS. At some points the story was heartwarming and sad while at other times I was laughing out loud! I love books that can bring out these reactions in me. You definitely want to pick up Sean Griswold's Head!
Payton is someone who reminds me a bit of myself. She is very organized, determined and practical. When she finds out that her parents have been lying to her about her dad's illness for months, she flips out. She starts being rebellious, her grades slip, and she refuses to talk to her parents. While she has overlooked Sean for years, an assignment from her school counselor has her seeing Sean in a different light and she starts to develop feelings for him.
Sean is a sweet and caring guy who I loved! He is real, alluring, and someone who I could actually see myself falling for. He isn't one of those flawless guys that I normally read about in YA. He has his share of flaws and I loved that about him. He and Payton are so cute together! They act awkward at first, but they slowly begin to open up and share their feelings for one another.
I loved reading about Payton's moments with her parents. They are actually pretty involved with her like and are given depth. My heart broke for Payton when she found out about her dad's MS and I felt for her and her family. I hated that she was so cold to her parents for lying but I could see why she was upset. Jac is Payton's boy crazy and somewhat annoying best friend. While she did drive me crazy sometimes, I could see that she truly cared for Payton so that made up for her personality.
Sean Griswold's Head is a fun story that I devoured within hours! It was a nice change from all the heavy books that I have read lately. Payton is hilarious and I enjoyed reading from her point of view. This is definitely a book I would recommend!
