Jocelyn Davies is stopping by the blog today for an interview. Enjoy!
1) What inspired A BEAUTIFUL DARK?
My “day job” is actually as a YA editor. When I first thought of A Beautiful Dark, I was literally sitting around with some friends of mine thinking, “if I got a submission right now, what would I want it to be…?” ABD is a paranormal romance, a thriller, a grounded contemporary, and a heartfelt coming of age story all in one. When I started it, done of the recent angel-themed books had come out yet, and I thought—how cool and gothic and epic would it be to write about angels? There are so many different interpretations throughout history, and I liked the idea of making up my own mythology. I was really drawn to the shady gray area between good and evil, and wanted to flip the idea of “fallen angels” on its head. I was also obsessed, as a teenager, with destiny and fate. Could something REALLY be written in the stars for you? Or do things in your lifehappen because of who you are and the choices you’re compelled to make?
2) What sets your book apart from others in the YA genre?
What I love about the YA genre right now is that there is such a HUGE variety of books out there! My favorite part of A Beautiful Dark is that while that it’s paranormal, the characters and romances feel really true to life. I think (man, I hope!) that by the end of the book, readers will think of these characters as their friends.
3) In A BEAUTIFUL DARK, there seems to be a love triangle blossoming between Asher, Devin, and Skye. Have you ever been involved in a love triangle?
Ha ha!! Good question. Have you? ;) I think it’s 100% possible to feel something for two different people at the same time, and have a hard time making a choice. For Skye, the choice is also intertwined with the fate of the universe, sooooo…there’s a lot at stake. :)
4) What are your thoughts on the cover for A BEAUTIFUL DARK?
In the words of Georgia Nicolson, oh my giddy god’s trousers I LUUUURVE IT! I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I loved the very first comp I saw, and I love the final version. Book 2 has some big shoes to fill in my heart!
5) What are you working on right now?
I’m working on book 2 in the series (hopefully readers will forgive me for the crazy cliffhanger at the end of book 1!), as well as another YA novel that’s completely unrelated to ABD.
6) What are the top 3 books in your TBR pile?
Man oh man, this is such a tough question because my TBR pile is always a gazillion books long (tall?). Two very close friends of mine have YA novels coming out the week before mine, and the week after, so I’m excited to read those! CIRCLE NINE by Anne Heltzel and PAST PERFECT by Leila Sales. I read Leila’s first book MOSTLY GOOD GIRLS in like two days and couldn’t stop laughing.

Book Synopsis:
Skye first sees dark, charming Asher and golden, reserved Devin on the night of her seventeenth birthday. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move. They even know things about her that strangers could never know. Soon she begins to question not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past. Skye's torn between the one she can't help falling for and the one she can't stay away from. The consequence of her choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.

That was a rather epic cliffhanger at the end!!! I just blinked stupidly and may have whimpered when I got to the last page:) The cover of this one is absolutely stunning, I would have died if I was Jocelyn and I saw that cover for the first time. Awesome interview ladies!
