Farrar, Straus and Giroux
From Goodreads:
In 2083, chocolate and coffee are illegal, paper is hard to find, water is carefully rationed, and New York City is rife with crime and poverty. And yet, for Anya Balanchine, the sixteen-year-old daughter of the city's most notorious (and dead) crime boss, life is fairly routine. It consists of going to school, taking care of her siblings and her dying grandmother, trying to avoid falling in love with the new assistant D.A.'s son, and avoiding her loser ex-boyfriend. That is until her ex is accidently poisoned by the chocolate her family manufactures and the police think she's to blame. Suddenly, Anya finds herself thrust unwillingly into the spotlight--at school, in the news, and most importantly, within her mafia family.
Why I'm Excited:
No coffee and chocolate?? And paper is hard to find which probably means no books! And then Anya is in a mafia family. This sounds so awful but I can't wait to see what happens!
Great pick! This one sounds really interesting and I like the cover :)
ReplyDeleteBig line at ALA to get this ARC. They even had coffee and chocolate to give away in line. Premise is interesting, even mom might read:)
ReplyDeleteThis was my WoW a few weeks ago. It looks really good!
ReplyDeleteMy WoW choice is just around the corner :)
Okay first of all, a world without chocolate is a world I don't want to live in. *cries at the mere thought* On a more positive note, I love the sound of this one (minus the aforementioned chocolate absence), can't wait to read it! Fabulous pick Bailey!
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to this one, too! I love the fact that the mob is incorporated--it adds a twist to traditional dystopia!
ReplyDeleteChocolate is illegal? What a terrible time to live in! :P. I love the sound of this, it sounds great. Nice pick :).
