From Goodreads:
This debut, the first novel in a trilogy, is achingly romantic, terrifying, and filled with blistering action.
When seventeen-year-old Ellie starts seeing reapers - monstrous creatures who devour humans and send their souls to Hell - she finds herself on the front lines of a supernatural war between archangels and the Fallen and faced with the possible destruction of her soul.
A mysterious boy named Will reveals she is the reincarnation of an ancient warrior, the only one capable of wielding swords of angelfire to fight the reapers, and he is an immortal sworn to protect her in battle. Now that Ellie's powers have been awakened, a powerful reaper called Bastian has come forward to challenge her. He has employed a fierce assassin to eliminate her - an assassin who has already killed her once.
While balancing her dwindling social life and reaper-hunting duties, she and Will discover Bastian is searching for a dormant creature believed to be a true soul reaper. Bastian plans to use this weapon to ignite the End of Days and to destroy Ellie's soul, ending her rebirth cycle forever. Now, she must face an army of Bastian's most frightening reapers, prevent the soul reaper from consuming her soul, and uncover the secrets of her past lives - including truths that may be too frightening to remember.
My Review:
Angelfire took me on a wild ride and didn't let me off until the very last page. Full of emotion, romance, mystery, and action, Angelfire is a fantastic paranormal novel that I will definitely be re-reading. This is by far my favorite book that I have read in a long time and I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. I am already going through Will and Ellie withdrawel and I only finished it today! The sequel, Wings of the Wicked, can not come out fast enough!
Ellie is someone that I would aspire to be. She is deep and real, especially through all that she has to go through. Finding out that she is the Preliator and is reincarnated each time she dies throws her for a loop. With Will (*squee*) her Guardian, she trains to become the strong and fierce Preliator that she is meant to be. Will helps her to grow into herself and to learn to face what she is meant to be. Ellie is definitely tough stuff and doesn't need someone to come in and rescue her. Though Will aids her in her battles, Ellie can sure hold her own. I loved the flashback scenes when Ellie remembers pieces from her past. They are fascinating! Moulton doesn't splash through the memories either. They are descriptive and imaginative and give us insight into who Ellie was in her past lives.
Will is a scrumptious piece of man! I absolutely loved his character and his mysteriousness. He is careful to reveal little about himself to Ellie. While I found it frustrating at times, his aloof nature really added to the story. As Ellie's Guardian, Will is very protective of Ellie and will do anything to guarantee her safety. I loved Will and Ellie's interactions with each other! It is fairly obvious that their is something more than a Guardian-Preliator relationship between them. I loved seeing their relationship develop. I was really happy that Will wasn't at all arrogant even though he was gorgeous! Heck, he doesn't even know how to interact with people in social situations. He is too cute! I really, really want a Will for myself!
Angelfire's plot was very unique and I have never read anything live it before. It is captivating and intense. The mythology behind everything was fascinating and new. Ellie's friends are fleshed out and not barely glanced upon. Will and Ellie's relationship develops at a perfect pace and their interactions with each other are exciting to read. There is not one bad thing that I could say about Angelfire. This novel whet my appetite and I am now hungry for the sequel, Wings of the Wicked! If you haven't yet gotten Angelfire, I don't know what you are still doing reading this! Run and get it now to find out what an awesome book this is!
