Catching Jordan Tour: Jordan Interview and a Giveaway

•    What do you feel before a football game?
Pure adrenaline. Excitement. My heart pounds and I can’t stop moving. Also, I generally feel like I could eat 10 meatball subs in a row.

    •    How did you and Henry first meet?

We were in different classes in kindergarten. One day at recess, my teacher said it was time to go back to class so I started sprinting toward her. Henry was sprinting in the opposite direction and we collided. Our heads banged together. We fell down. I got a black eye and he had a big welt on his forehead. The next day, we hung out on the playground and he was angry because my black eye was bigger and nastier looking than his welt.

    •    What was it like growing up with the great Donovan Woods as a father?

Lots of free Gatorade! Kidding, kidding. My parents are there for me if I need them, but Dad has always been busy and he travels a ton, even in the off season. One thing that sucked was that it was hard to know if people liked me because of my dad or because they liked me for me.

    •    In Catching Jordan, you become quite the poet! Do you have a recent poem to share with us?

My poetry abilities are still very much a work-in-progress, so I’m going to share a poem that was cut from my memoir, Catching Jordan. Some of this made it back into the book as prose.

Pop Warner

I’ll admit it
I started out as a cheerleader
Cheering for a Pop Warner team, the Hornets
Mom dressed me up
Skirts and pompoms and ribbons
I pouted
At my third game, Henry played quarterback
Instead of cheering I was searching for crickets behind some trees
Good bait is always important
The ball went out of bounds
I ran to grab it
I hurled it
It flew farther than any of Henry’s passes
That day
I traded my pompoms in for cleats
And Henry became a wide receiver

    •    Who do you look up to that is in football professionally?

Tom Brady (unless he’s rocking some gross ponytail, which has been known to happen)
Chad Ochocinco, because he stays true to himself.

  9. This interview was too cute. I loved the part of starting as a cheerleader, getting distracted by nature, and then hurling the football further than her friend.

Thanks for the posting and for the generous giveaway opportunity.

  16. Great Character Interview! Read a great review of this book earlier today from a blogger I really trust. I'll be getting this one way or another. Though she said it had some substance to it, not as fluffy as we might think.

I'd love to win a gift card. I'm always buying books!

  31. My niece actually read this book, which is strange because she only reads when forced to. She loved it and could not stop talking about it. I liked her review so much, that she just passed it on to me and I'm looking forward to it.
