Review: If I Die by Rachel Vincent

If I Die by Rachel Vincent
September 27, 2011
Harlequin Teen

Synopsis:
No one wants to be this teacher’s pet . . .

Everyone else is talking about Eastlake High’s gorgeous new math teacher, Mr. Beck, but Kaylee Cavanaugh has bigger things on her mind. Kaylee’s a banshee—her scream is a portent of death.

But the next scream might hit too close to home. Kaylee’s borrowed lifeline has almost run out.

Yeah—it’s a shock to her, too. So to distract herself from her own problems, Kaylee is determined to defend her school against the latest supernatural threat. That hot new teacher is really an incubus, who feeds from the desire of unsuspecting students. The only girls immune to his lure are Kaylee and Sabine, her boyfriend’s delinquent ex-girlfriend. Now the unlikely allies have to get rid of Mr. Beck…before he discovers they aren’t quite human either.

But Kaylee’s running out of time, and those who love her will do anything to save her life.

Anything.

Soul Screamers: The last thing you hear before you die.

My Review:
Ummm....WOW. Rachel Vincent did it again with IF I DIE. With the very first line, I found myself sucked into Kaylee's world and I couldn't think of anything else until I finished the novel. Heck, I found myself thinking of IF I DIE long after I finished it! Vincent brings about many shocking and amazing situations that remind me of why I fell in love with this series. Nothing is predictable in IF I DIE and there events that happen in IF I DIE are sure to gratify fans! I don't think I can ever get enough of the Soul Screamers series.

Kaylee's back and she's taking names in IF I DIE. From the very first chapter she learns that she only has six days to live and does everything she can to make those six measly days count. She does so many things that either made me laugh, cry, or scream with joy! Refer to page 204 if you want to know what made me a very, very happy girl.

I wasn't sure how I felt about Nash by the end of the book. So many pivotal things happen to him in IF I DIE that either made me love him even more, or question my feelings for him. He is such a sweetheart but I still can't get over the weird relationship between him and Sabine. You know he loves the attention he gets from both Sabine and Kaylee!

Vincent surprised me in that she made me actually kind of like Sabine. Sure, she is a manipulative and snarky girl who is determined to steal Nash away from Kaylee, but there are a few occurrences in IF I DIE that made her redeemable. I learned that she really isn't so bad and that she can't help but love Nash.

Oh Tod....how I love him so. Every line from him makes me swoon. He is such a flirt but I got to see a much softer side to him in IF I DIE. I already loved him, but I have to say that I fell even harder for him in IF I DIE. Things happen that involve him that made me do a dance around my room! You will just have to read IF I DIE to find out what I am talking about.

IF I DIE is my favorite novel yet from Vincent. She raises the stakes in IF I DIE and nothing will be the same for any of the characters in her next book in the series. I can't wait!!

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed this one, Bailey. I love it when an author makes you like a character you originally hated, that takes talent! I haven't gotten started on this series, but it looks like I should!
