Review: Eve by Anna Carey

October 4, 2011
HarperTeen

Synopsis:
The year is 2032, sixteen years after a deadly virus—and the vaccine intended to protect against it—wiped out most of the earth’s population. The night before eighteen-year-old Eve’s graduation from her all-girls school she discovers what really happens to new graduates, and the horrifying fate that awaits her.

Fleeing the only home she’s ever known, Eve sets off on a long, treacherous journey, searching for a place she can survive. Along the way she encounters Caleb, a rough, rebellious boy living in the wild. Separated from men her whole life, Eve has been taught to fear them, but Caleb slowly wins her trust...and her heart. He promises to protect her, but when soldiers begin hunting them, Eve must choose between true love and her life.

My Review:
EVE is a fast-paced, nail biting dystopian novel that is sure to be a hit among YA readers. It has everything you could possibly want in a dystopian novel: danger, an evil government, lovable main characters, and best of all, a romance that will have your heart fluttering. Like all dystopian novels though, there is a cliffhanger ending, so expect some frustration. But the wait for the next novel is well worth the experience of EVE.

Eve is a protagonist that you will be rooting for from the start. When she discovers what's waiting for her after graduation, she is horrified. This spurs her escape into the dangerous wild where she encounters many horrors, and finds love in the most unexpected place. Best of all, it isn't an insta-love! It blossoms oh-so slowly and perfectly that you can't help but sigh.

Caleb is said romantic interest in EVE and I adored him from the start. He is rough from his time in the wild, but he still has a softer side that made my heart melt. His appearance on the scene is just in time to save EVE before her imminent demise and sets the tone for what is to come.

My favorite part of EVE was Eve's time spent with the orphan boys in the makeshift "home" where Caleb lives. I came to adore all of the little boys, especially Silas and Benny. I could tell how much they looked up to Eve as a mother figure and my heart hurt for all that they had been through so young.

EVE is one of my favorite books that I have read this year! You are sure in for a treat when you dive into this one.

  2. I didn't love Ever quite as much as you did, but I definitely agree with you about the book being exciting! (And I loved the parts with Caleb's "family". So cute!)

  4. I've seen mixed reviews for this one but positive reviews from Hafsah and now you have me thinking about starting this one next. I love it when romances develop slowly so that's definitely a plus.
