Eden didn't expect Az.
Not his saunter down the beach toward her. Not his unbelievable pick-up line. Not the instant, undeniable connection. And not his wings.
So long, happily-ever-after.
Now trapped between life and death, cursed to spread chaos with her every touch, Eden could be the key in the eternal struggle between heaven and hell. All because she gave her heart to one of the Fallen, an angel cast out of heaven.
She may lose everything she ever had. She may be betrayed by those she loves most. But Eden will not be a pawn in anyone else's game. Her heart is her own.
And that's only the beginning of the end.
Going into A Touch Mortal, I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew that it had something to do with angels and death, but I had no idea what else. After finishing the novel, I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised at where Leah Clifford went with the novel. This isn't just any fallen angel book; in fact, it is far from it. Completely new concepts and supernaturals are introduced, and the story follows Eden and her friends as they deal with the developments. A Touch Mortal is an exciting, yet gut-wrenching story that fascinated and intrigued me.
Eden really surprised me. I don't normally enjoy protagonists that are mad at the world and have a negative sense of reality. In Eden's case, I completely understood why she was this way. I want you to discover for yourself what Eden is, but I will say she is a paranormal "being" that has a reason to be a pessimist. While she has her low moments throughout most of the story, she does have a few positive experiences and I was so happy for her. Eden has been dealt with a rough portion of life. She doesn't get any choice in what she is and resents it. If that isn't enough to deal with, she is very special and can do something that none of her kind can. This causes much drama for her as some want to embrace her gift, while others are none too happy with Eden and what she does.
And then you have the cast of side characters who are all beautifully developed. Az, the love interest, is a very conflicted yet dreamy angel who is close to becoming a fallen angel but hasn't quite made the full fall yet. We get just a taste of him in the story, and I have to say that I want more! Gabriel is an angel who is friends with Az and helps to ensure that he doesn't fall. He also cares deeply for Eden after spending time with her, and like Az, will do anything he can to protect her. And then there is Kristen, Jarrod, James, Adam, and Libby, who are all connected to Eden's new "life". They all have their own stories, and they rounded out the story well.
A Touch Mortal is a brilliantly woven debut that took my breath away. Not knowing what you are going into makes it all the more exciting! Find out for yourself what Eden is, and experience the love between her and Az by getting yourself a copy of the book!
