Review: The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa

From Goodreads:
My name is Meghan Chase.I thought it was over. That my time with the fey, the impossible choices I had to make, the sacrifices of those I loved, was behind me. But a storm is approaching, an army of Iron fey that will drag me back, kicking and screaming. Drag me away from the banished prince who's sworn to stand by my side. Drag me into the core of conflict so powerful, I'm not sure anyone can survive it.
This time, there will be no turning back.

My Review:

I am truly, madly, deeply in love with Kagawa's Iron Fey series. The ending of The Iron Daughter left me desperate for the next book in the series and I was hopeful that I would enjoy this new book as much as the previous to. I don't know why I even had that thought because Kagawa blew me away with The Iron Queen. It was everything I hoped for and exactly what I would expect from this fantastic author. I could go on and on about the sheer awesomeness of this book so i'll try to sum it up as best as I can.

The stakes are high for Meghan, as well as her friends in this book. The Iron Fey are close to conquering the Nevernever and destroying the beauty of it. I was on pins and needles throughout the entire book because of all the twists and turns. In The Iron Queen, Meghan is given the task of defeating the false king and she has so much to lose. With the help of her boyfriend Ash, friend Puck, and tricky little cat Grimmelkin, Meghan is able to overcome the many obstacles that come her way. Meghan has blossomed into a brave and courageous girl and she uses her newfound skills to navigate the frightful Iron Fey world.

The ending of The Iron Daughter really did me in. Just when Meghan and Ash resolved to be with each other, they were banished from the Nevernever and forbidden to return again. In The Iron Queen, Meghan and Ash finally show their feelings toward one another and made me a happy girl. The chemistry between these two in the previous books was sheer torture and I was relieved when they finally felt comfortable enough to confront their feelings. Yes, there are a few mistunderstandings and fights between them in The Iron Queen but that is to be expected. I loved every moment that they were together and the developments that occured in their complicated relationship.

This was an unbelievably awesome and amazing novel that I will be thinking about for days to come. The ending leaves off at a critical point and the only thing that appeases me is that there is another novel in this series coming soon, The Iron Knight. This will be told from Ash's perspective so I am eager to see how Kagawa pulls this off.

  1. I might be in the minority here, but I actually really liked the ending of The Iron Queen. As awful as it was on one hand, I felt like the author was being realistic and keeping in line with the characters and world that she'd created. Either way though, I can't wait for The Iron Knight! I'm also interested to see how the book will be from Ash's point of view.
